World Police and Fire Games:

The World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) is a multi-sport event which takes place every two years. The game is confined only to the vigorous and retired law enforcement and fire service personnel throughout the world. The Federation of WPFG is originally an American organization and a division of the California Police Athletic Federation (CPAF). We at Ancient Olympic Games give the basic information about international games and sports. In this page, we will describe in detail about World Police and Fire Games.

An approximate number of sixty sports and eighty disciplines take place in this game including angling, wrestling and pistol shooting. The game is celebrated and joined by a large of participants from around the globe. Almost 10,000 contestants participated in the game which is a little fewer than the Summer Olympic Games, and higher the number than the third position holder, the Commonwealth Games.

World Police and Fire Games Federation is a non-profit association runs by the California Police Athletics, founded the Games in 1985. After the success of the California Games for its few consecutive session, it was then projected to begin the first World Police and Fire Games in 1983 for the first time. The suggestion to begin the game was accepted and the World Police and Fire Games were held in 1985 in San Jose, California.

Till 1993, the first three places in Bench Press, Grand Masters-100 kilos, were won by Americans. In the 6th World Police and Fire Games held in Melbourne, 1995, a 55-year old Cypriot policeman, Inspector Andreas Savvides, suffering from serious ankylosing spondylitis won the bronze medal in Bench Press.

It is projected that the 2009 games will be remarkable as it will feature a wide variety of sports, ranging from the traditional like track and field, soccer and softball to the offbeat like angling, darts and wrist wrestling. Above 3,000 volunteers and 400 Senior Police and Fire decision makers will join the game.

The next World Police and Fire Games will be held in New York City from August 26 to September 5, 2011.
