The West Asian Games, an event of sports played among the athletes of West Asian countries. The game was first held in Tehran, Iran and was considered to be first. The great achievement of the first edition of the Games had led to the creation of the West Asian Games Federation (WAGF) and the objective of hosting the Games every 4 years. We will focus on the main events and other important aspects of the game in our website. Ancient Olympic Games is intended to bring to light the latest and the previous records of the Olympic Games as well as other major international Games.
The West Asian Games endeavors to promote friendship, understanding and peace in the region and take vigorous measures in the way to increase the Olympic movement through its dictum of “Faith, Health and development.”
The 1st West Asian Games took place from 19 to 28 November 1997 in Tehran, Iran and had about 850 athletes and 236 team officials participating from 10 countries in 11 sports. At first only men were allowed to participate. But the 3rd West Asian Games has broken this tradition.
The 2nd West Asian Games were held after a great tribulation and amendment in the gaming schedule. It so happened because of the armed conflict in the region. Finally, after a long period the 2nd West Asian Games held in Kuwait from 3 to 12 April 2002, which was initially expected to be organized in Qatar in 1999.
Twelve countries participated, among them Bahrain, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Syria, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. Iraq did not participate and no competitions were held for women.
The Third West Asian Games held in Doha from the 1st to the 10th December 2005. It was also the first West Asian Games to welcome women as participants.
The 4th West Asian Games will be held in 2010 in Tehran.
