Spartakiad:

Spartakiad, at first, was an international sports event which was used by the Soviet Union to    make an effort to use to both protest and complement the Olympics. The first Spartakiad took place in August, 1928 in Moscow. Eventually, the Soviet Union had decided to get connected themselves with the Olympic movement, and international Spartakiad, thus came to an end. Though, the term was persistent for any kind of internal sports events that took place in the Soviet Union of different levels, starting from neighboring up to the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR.

The Spartakiad event was organized twice in every four years: Winter Spartakiad and Summer Spartakiad where there was worldwide participation of athletes. The first game of Soviet Spartakiad took place in the year 1956. This is a very important event which played the key role in the Soviet sports. All people including ordinary to top-level athletes are welcomed to participate in the game. The game was quite successful during its time. During the 3rd Winter Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR, the number of contestant that took part was 20 million together with some 1,000 Masters of Sports of the USSR. In the 6th Summer Spartakiad, the number of participants joined was 90 million people along with 8,300 Masters of Sports of the USSR.

In the name of Spartakiad, there existed another Soviet sport event of Trade Unions. The event was organized in a number of post Soviet republics, such as Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

“Spartakiad” was the term which was also used to put on show gymnastics before the masses. This took place every five years at the Strahov Stadium in Prague, Czechoslovakia. During the time, the country was under Communist rule.
