Lusophony Games:

The Lusophony Games is an international event of multi-sport organized by the ACOLOP. The game involves various athletes coming from Lusophone, the Portuguese-speaking countries. To be precise, the athletes belong to the CPLP (Community of Portuguese Language Countries), but also others where there is also found the trace of some significant Portuguese communities or that have a familiarity with Portugal. Ancient Olympic Games is an information providing website, specially framed to give you knowledge about the Olympic Games and other international games and competitions.
In Lusophony Games, the participating countries are founding members such as, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Guinea-Bissau, Macau (China), Mozambique, Portugal and São Tomé and Príncipe, and associate members Equatorial Guinea, India and Sri Lanka. Besides, Ghana, Flores, an island of Indonesia, Mauritius and Morocco have also articulated the desire to participate in the forthcoming events.
This event is quite similar conceptually to the Commonwealth Games and the Jeux de la Francophonie. The 1st Lusophony Games were held in 2006 from 7 to 15 October and it was hosted by Macau, China. With a large number of 733 athletes from 11 countries, the game was successfully carried out.  In the competition, there were a total of 48 events dispersed between 8 sports: athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, football, futsal, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball. Among the leading medal collectors of the Games, Portugal and Brazil were quite prominent. Almost 85% of the titles were managed to grab by both the countries. 
The coming 2009 Lusophony Games will be the 2nd edition of it. The great multi-sport event of the Games will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from July 11 to July 19, 2009. The Pavilhão Atlántico will be the main venue of the Games where the main ceremonies and most of the sport competitions will be staged.
