The Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) is the multi-sport event which is played in the multi-national level. The game takes place every four years. The event is celebrated and participated by a selected group of athletes who belong to the Organization of the Islamic Conference. ISSF is The Islamic Solidarity Games Federation which is an association that is responsible for giving direction and also to administer the Islamic Solidarity Games. The game is organized with the sole intention to strengthen the unity and to raise the intra-trade and collaboration among the Islamic world. The first game of Islamic Solidarity took place in Saudi Arabia in the year 2005. The game was held under the authority of Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, Prince Abdulmajeed bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Makkah, opened at King Abdulaziz Sports City in Makkah. The game was hosted by the four kingdoms which are: Makkah, Almadinah, Jeddah and Taif and started from 8 April to 20 April, 2005. Saudi Arabia took the pride of attaining the first position by winning 24 gold medals while Egypt and Kazakhstan took the 2nd and 3rd place by winning 14 gold and 13 gold medals simultaneously.
In the Organization of the Islamic Conference, there are at present 57 members. Even those countries having few or non-Muslim population in the member countries are also permitted to have active participation in the Games.
In the 2005 ISG, there were special events for the disabled, along with two sources of soccer: futsal for the mentally handicapped and goal ball for the blind.
It is a matter of great pride for Iran to host the 2009 ISG and the whole nation stands up to cheer after it was decided by the ISSF. It is the first time in the history of ISG that female athletes are going to participate and this will happen in the 2009 Islamic Solidarity Games.
