The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is an international, non-governmental, non-profit association as well as the founder of the Olympic Movement. The first and foremost duty of it is to supervise the organization of both the summer and winter Olympic Games. The headquarters of the committee are in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The members of the IOC are elected by the members itself. Each of the members can speak either French or English and live in a country having a National Olympic Committee as approved by the IOC in order to promote the Olympic movement and the sport in that country.
IOC was developed with the deep intention to promote Olympism all through the world and to guide the Olympic Movement. It has its various key roles. It encourages and supports the endorsement of ethics in sport and education of youth through sport and to devote its efforts. The members always take care for celebrating the Olympic Games regularly. They take stern action against any form of discrimination affecting the Olympic Movement. The role of women in sport is quite significant and if not encouraged and promoted well, the principle of equality of men and women will ends up in vain. They deliver their best to encourage as well hold up a responsible concern for environmental issues so as to prop up sustainable development in sport and to enquire that the Olympic Games are held accordingly. The members shoulder the responsibility to encourage and support the activities of the International Olympic Academy (IOA) and other organizations which mark their full dedication to Olympic education.
