The Olympic Games are an international occasion of summer and winter sports, in which hundreds and thousands of athletes across worldwide come and compete in a wide variety of events. The Games are at present held every two years, with an alternative of summer and Winter Olympic Games. It has been recorded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that 28 Olympic Summer Games have been held so far. The current 2008 Games at Beijing is the 29th and it features 302 events in 28 sports.
The total number of sports in the Olympic Games program are 33 with 52 disciplines and nearly 400 events. It has been divided into the Summer Olympics program including 26 sports and the Winter Olympics program including 7 sports. In the summer games there is wrestling comprising of two disciplines: Greco-Roman and Freestyle. It is then further broken down into fourteen events for men and four events for women. There are other games in the summer sport that have never been absent from the Olympic program, these are athletics, swimming, fencing, and artistic gymnastics. Cross-country skiing, figure skating, ice hockey, Nordic combined, ski jumping, and speed skating are the Winter Olympics program since its setting up in 1924.
