The East Asian Games is an event where there are a wide range of games played and participated by thousands of athletes. The South Asian Games are organized by East Asian Games Association (EAGA) and held every four years since 1993 among various athletes from East Asian countries. The 2009 East Asian Games (EAG) will be held in Hong Kong from December 5 to13. More than 3,000 athletes from nine countries or regions will join and compete in the biggest ever EAG which is the largest multi-sport event yet held in the city. Hong Kong is the natural host for this great regional event, with its major location at the centre of East Asia, its great infrastructure and connectivity, top-notch hotels, generosity and cuisine.

- DPR Korea (North Korea)
- Republic of Korea (South Korea)

- Mongolia
- Chinese Taipei
Formerly, Kazakhstan was also a member of EAGA. However since it has joined the membership of European Olympic Committee, they no longer take part in these Games anymore. Kazakhstan is presently a member of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and participates in the Central Asian Games.
In the 2009 EAG more than 3,500 athletes will compete for 290 Gold medals in a record-breaking 23 sporting events. The theme of the Hong Kong 2009 EAG is “Be the Legend” and the friendly mascots who will greet visitors to these Games are called Dony and Ami.
