The East Asian Games is a multi-sport event. The games are held every four years since 1993 among athletes from East Asian countries. The basic criteria for participating include; all athletes must entered by their National Olympic Committee. The latest edition of the game was held in Macau in 2005. In the 2005 East Asian Games, there were 17 sports were part of the programme.

The Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games (EAG) will be held from 5th to 13th December 2009. As said earlier, the game is one of Asia's pride and joy athletic gatherings featuring top-class athletes from nine participating countries and places. All the athletes will gather in the field to display their skill and proficiency rooted in the spirit of Olympic. A great number of more than 3,500 athletes which is the largest number of athletes that will ever to compete in the EAG will try to win for 290 Gold medals in a record-breaking 23 sporting events. It is heard that 21 venues will be used to handle the events. The theme of 2009 Hong Kong EAG is "Be the Legend".
