Commonwealth Youth Games
The Commonwealth Youth Games took birth as a partial version of the Commonwealth Games. The game is framed particularly for children and young people. The first Commonwealth Youth Games were held in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2000, and just after four years, the second game was held in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia, in the year 2004. The first Commonwealth Youth Games was played for over 3 days. During the three days’ event held in Edinburgh, Scotland in August 2000, there were 733 Athletes from 14 countries took part in 8 sports. With the success of the first session of the game, the second edition was held where there was more number of participants than the first session. Different contestants from 22 countries took active part in the 10 sports program that was held during the session of the game. The third Youth Games took place in the Indian city of Pune from 12 - 18 October 2008 which was vigorously participated by 71 nations and territories in 9 sports.
The fourth Games will be held in Douglas, Isle of Man, in 2011. The 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games will be hosted by Apia, Samoa.
Commonwealth Games Federation took a resolution in 2005 at their General Assembly to shift the Youth Games outside of the Olympic Games year. In 2008, it was decided at the General Assembly to reward the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games to Samoa and also to keep up the quadrennial cycle thereby, giving the declaration that the future events will be held in 2017, 2021 and so on.
In the most recent session of the Games held in 2008 in Pune, India attained the highest position in the gold medal tally with 33 gold, Australia second with 24 gold and England third with 18 gold.
