The Common Wealth Games are administered by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). It is a multi-sport event played across many countries. The CGF is a great union of around 70 countries of the major continents, such as, Asia, Africa, America, Europe, Caribbean and Oceania. In the year 1930, the CGF was formed by Bobby Robbinson. The initiator founded it with a solid inspiration to endorse and celebrate the most friendly and premium Games as well as to reinforce the pleasant co-ordination among the Commonwealth countries. The philosophy of the Common Wealth Games Federation is: Humanity, Equality and Destiny.
The characteristic feature of the Common Wealth Games is, its expansion derived from history, as compared with the geographic and climatic factors held responsible for the expansion of other world sport associations. It is the only Games Federation that has only the common language for conversation, i.e. English and for that it is attributed. The Commonwealth Games can also be called as "Friendly Games", which thus, stimulates the source of inspiration amongst the Youth of the Commonwealth Nations, in order to exceed the outstanding level in games and sports.
The first event, formerly called the British Empire Games, took place in 1930 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The present name was confirmed in 1978. Presently, there existed 53 members of the Commonwealth of Nations, and almost 71 teams get together to participate in the Games. The first Common Wealth Games in 1930 took place in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. During the year 1942 and 1946, the game was suspended due to World War II. The Commonwealth Games of 2002 were staged at Manchester, London.
The latest Commonwealth Games took place from 15-26 March 2006; in Melbourne, Australia. The 2010 Commonwealth Games will be hosted by India in Delhi, the heart of the country. The sports includes Cycling, Netball, Rugby, Weightlifting, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Aquatics, Athletics, Gymnastics, Hockey, Badminton, Basketball, Bowls, Boxing and Triathlon.
