The Central Asian Games is a sport event including various sports. It is held every two years since 1995 among various athletes joining and participating from the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. After the declaration of independence of the Central Asian republics, it now form a distinct sporting region. The participating nations in the Central Asian Games are- Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
The first Central Asian Games were held in 1995. The game held in 1995 was also called I Central Asian Games and it was held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. In the first Central Asian Games, five nations participated with its athletes. There were 12 sports in the first session and the athletes has shown their skill and proficiency in their own field. The main stadium where the game was held was Pakhtakor Maraziy Stadium. After the success of the first session, the federation for Central Asian Games planned to continue it for the forthcoming years.
The second edition of Central Asian Games were held at Almaty in Kazakhstan in 1997. Sergey Arzamasov, a Kazakhstani triple-jumper got gold medal in the second Central Asian Games in 1997.
The third Central Asian Games were also held in 1999 and it was again hosted in Kazakhstan at Bishkek. But the next session of the game which was supposed to be held in 2001 was cancelled. The 4th session of the game was held in Tajikistan in 2003 and the recent session, that is the 5th session of Central Asian Games were held in Uzbekistan in 2005.
