The Bolivarian Games are a regional multi-sport event take place in tribute of Simon Bolívar. The games were organized by the Bolivarian Sports Organization (ODEBO). The competition or the event is open to the countries enlightened by Bolívar or those born from these. To look back into the history, we found that Bolívar was the leader of several independence movements throughout South America, jointly known as Bolívar's War and until the present day, is credited with leading the fight for independence in what are now the countries of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama and Bolivia. He is respected as a hero in these countries. Hence, the event is open to the 6 countries liberated by Bolívar or those born from these.
The first Bolivarian Games were held in 1938 in Bogotá, Colombia in celebration of the city's 400th anniversary. Since then the games have been held irregularly. But after 1973, it has been held every four years, with the last edition in Armenia and Pereira in Colombia in 2005.
Like the Olympic Games, the Bolivarian Games are a multisport competition that was conceived back in 1935 during the Bogotá´s fourth centenary celebrations, due to take place in 1938. In order to participate in the games, all athletes must come into by their National Olympic Committee. While all the Equestrian sports are carried out in agreement with the FEI Rules. At the Bolivarian games, the equestrian disciplines that are concerned are Jumping and Dressage.
The Bolivarian Games, recently held in Ambato, Ecuador, depended heavily on bodybuilding as a highlight competition. The games offered an opportunity for IFBB Executive Assistant Rafael Santonja to meet up with the presidents of more than 10 Olympic committees and further reinforce the ties between the IFBB and the IOC.
