In the Asian games, only recognized nations are allowed to represent, but a few non-sovereign countries are permitted to take part.  Just after the Second World War when numerous Asian countries got independence, they decided to start a new type of competition where there will no violence and should be strengthened by mutual understanding. With that spirit of oneness, the Asian Games were held.

The First Asian Games which was originally scheduled for 1950 was postponed until March 1951 because of the belated preparations and it went on for eighty days from 4 March 1951 to 12 March 1951. The recent 15th Asian Games were held in Doha, Qatar from December 1 to December 15, 2006. The 16th Asian Games will be held in Guangzhou, China from November 12, 2010 to November 27, 2010.
