Ancient Olymic Games:

At Ancient Olympic Game, we bring to you the evolutionary theory of modern Olympic Games. The Ancient Olympic Games were a succession of athletic competitions started in 776 BC in Olympia, Greece. The Games were continuously celebrated until 393 AD.     At that early period, the prizes were laurel wreaths, palm branches, woolen ribbons and at times even food for life. There are day night difference between the ancient Olympics and the modern Games. Earlier, there were fewer events, and only free men who could speak Greek could only participate, instead of athletes from any country. The Games were earlier held at Olympia and it did not move around to different places every time.

Both the International and local contests were almost always close related with religious festivals. The winners of the game received only crowns of wild olive leaves, and pledges of immortality. The victors were greatly honored and when they returned home, they were often accompanied into their town with great grandeur and celebrations. It was also happened that sometimes a hole was pricked in the city wall honoring their special entry. Moreover, a victor might even be treated with giving meals at the expense of the state for the remainder of his lifetime.

But the ancient Olympic Games were collapsed before the Romans invaded Greece.     On conquering Greece, the Romans turned stadiums into auditoriums and forced the athletes to become slaves who were then dragged to fight against wild beasts. This new form of sport was well-enjoyed by the common mass and Roman soldiers, but it cease away from the ceremonial honor that the Olympics characterized.

The earliest modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in April of 1896 along with 13 nations. Almost 300 representatives from the nations were sent to take part in 42 events. But, the modern Olympic Games have been called off three times because of war in 1916, 1940 and 1944.
