Aquatics - Rio 2016 Summer Olympics

The origin of the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) in 1908 was a practical reaction to an enhancement in international sporting events which was rewarded by the Olympic Games. In 1896, during the first modern Olympics, three swimming contests were held. Yet, there was no any universally accepted set of laws, regulations or definitions presiding over the swimming events.
The Olympic Games competitions earlier to FINA had incorporated a range of remarkable events such as underwater swimming (1900), 200m obstacle swimming (1900) and plunge for distance (1904). Just before to the London Olympics, where a 100m pool took place, the ocean (1896), the River Seine (1900), and a little lake in St. Louis, USA (1904), had been taken as Olympic sites.
With the intension to amalgamate the set of laws and generate a forum for international meetings, the selected members of the eight attending countries Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Great Britain, Hungary and Sweden held a meeting on 19 July 1908 at the Manchester Hotel, London, on the event of the Games of the IV Olympiad. There at the meeting, they took resolution to create a world-wide swimming association.
The main concept or goals behind the idea were to standardize the rules and regulations for swimming, diving and water polo in order to achieve full control of world records and to sustain an up-to-date list of these records; and lastly, to make certain the course of Olympic Games competitions for swimming, diving and water polo.
The excellent achievement for the last 40 years has made various world records in this field. The National Aquatics Center, also known as the Water Cube, is an aquatics center that was built at the side of Beijing National Stadium in the Olympic Green for holding the swimming competitions of the 2008 Summer Olympics.
